I. Author Rights and Responsibilities
1. Original Work
Manuscripts submitted to ETRI Journal must be original work submitted exclusively to ETRI Journal and never published before,
excluding in short abstract form. A manuscript previously published in another language is not regarded as an original contribution.
2. Copyright
With each manuscript you must submit an ETRI Journal copyright form which transfers the copyright to the unpublished article
to ETRI Journal and which warrants that the article is the original work of the author and does not infringe the copyright of any other
parties. Before publication, the Editorial and Publication Office must receive a signed hard copy of the copyright form, which can be
obtained on the ETRI Journal web site.
3. Ethical and Legal Issues
Plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, and double submission are unacceptable. Authors are responsible for acknowledging
sources appropriately. ETRI assumes that material submitted to ETRI Journal is properly available for general dissemination to the
readership of ETRI Journal. It is the responsibility of the authors, not ETRI or ETRI Journal, to determine whether disclosure of
their material requires the prior consent of other parties and, if so, to obtain it.
4. Contents
Statements and opinions given in the articles published in ETRI Journal are the expressions of the contributors.
Responsibility for the contents of published papers rests upon the authors, not ETRI or ETRI Journal.
5. Authorship
Every contributor should be listed as an author and no one but contributors should be listed as authors. The submitting
author is regarded as the corresponding author. All correspondence will be sent to the submitting author by e-mail.
II. Manuscript Preparation
1. Research Areas Covered in ETRI Journal
Papers to be considered for publication in ETRI Journal should be original papers of broad significance and long range interest in
- Basic research
- Network technology
- Radio & broadcasting technology
- Mobile telecommunication
- Computer & software technology
- Information technology strategy
- Information security
Papers should be written to be accessible to non-specialists as well as experts in the fields discussed.
2. Choice of Word Processor
Use Microsoft Word to prepare your manuscript. The manuscript must be edited in two-column format including figures and
tables using an ETRI Journal template. The ETRI Journal style guide file can be used as a template for letter papers and the ETRI
Journal author guide file for regular or special-issue papers. Please prepare your manuscript according to this style guideline.
Do not use other templates. Most formatting codes are removed and replaced when we prepare your manuscript for printing, so please
input your material as simply as possible and avoid excessive use of special formatting.
3. Length of Manuscript
The length of regular or special-issue papers is limited to ten pages in ETRI Journal's two-column format. Letters are
limited to four pages. Your paper should be just long enough to present the background of the subject, your purpose, the details
of your investigation, your results, and your conclusions. For letters, we have a strict policy of not publishing appendices.
The font size and spacing should not be manipulated to forcefully fit the page limit.
4. Abstract
The abstract of a paper should concisely state what was done, how it was done, the principal results, and their significance.
It will appear later in various abstracts/index journals and should only contain the most critical information of the paper. The abstract
of a regular paper is limited to 1200 characters and that of a letter to 600 characters including the blank spaces.
5. Consecutive Numbering of Parts
All manuscript pages, footnotes, equations, and references should be labeled in consecutive numerical order. Illustrations and
tables should be cited in text in numerical order.
6. Sections
Regular length papers generally consist of the title, author affiliation footnote (including any financial support acknowledgement),
abstract, introduction, body, conclusion, and reference list. A paper may also include appendices, a glossary of symbols, and an acknowledgment
of non-financial support. The author names and author affiliation footnote must not appear at submission or during review for anonymity between
reviewers and authors.
7. References
Only material directly related to your investigation should be cited and included under references.
8. Errors, Revisions, and Timeliness
Authors are responsible for correcting errors in their manuscripts and completing revisions in a timely manner as requested by the
Editorial and Publication Office.
III. Online Manuscript Submission Procedure
You need to register on the web site to submit a paper to ETRI Journal. ETRI Journal accepts only online article submissions.
Try to complete the process in one session; however, if you want to leave the site before completing the process, you must click "save and exit"
at the end of any step and return later to complete the process. By clicking "proceed" you can save the information at the current step and
proceed to the next step. It is important for you to be aware that until you click 'submit' at the end of the submission procedure, your
manuscript will not be received at the Editorial and Publication Office.
Enter information as the screens prompt you. Check each step as you proceed. If there are errors, you can return to earlier pages and correct
them.
Thoroughly read and understand all information under Information for Authors and the ETRI Journal Style Guide. Prepare your manuscript strictly
according to this information before submitting it. Failure to comply with our instructions will result in a delay in publication of your
article. If you have any questions, contact the Editorial and Publication Office. Contact information is listed on the following page.
1. Manuscript Information (Step 1)
A. Enter Your Manuscript Title, Abstract and Keywords
Even though the title and abstract are included in the text of the manuscript, you must enter them in this step because
the Editorial and Publication Office uses these fields in a searchable database to expedite the review process.
B. Upload the Manuscript
Using the browse button provided, locate your manuscript on your computer and upload the file. Check your file carefully
before and after uploading it. If you find errors, make the necessary changes on your original document and then re-upload it.
2. Author Information (Step 2)
The system will ask for information on the author(s) according to the number you gave in Step 1.
The submitting author is assumed to be the contact author. All correspondences will be sent to the submitting author by e-mail.
Author name, organization and department, phone number, and e-mail address are required fields; without filling in those fields,
you cannot go to the next step.
3. Recommendation of Experts (Step 3)
ETRI Journal requests you to recommend experts in the paper's subject field. Recommendation of experts is important though
they may not necessarily be the reviewers chosen for your paper. Reviewers are chosen by the Editorial Committee.
4. Copyright Agreement (Step 4)
Authors must agree to transfer the copyright of their manuscript to ETRI Journal. The submission procedure cannot be completed
without this agreement. Before you click "submit," you may choose to scan the signed copyright form and upload it right away. Alternatively,
you can just click "submit" first and then send or fax the signed hard copy of ETRI Journal's Copyright Agreement form as soon as possible
to the ETRI Journal Editorial Office, 218 Gajeongno, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, 305-700, S. Korea (fax: +82 42 860 6737). This
form should be signed by an author who is fully authorized to enter into the agreement and make the grants contained therein, representing
all the authors, and, in the case of a work made for hire, the author's employer.
When you have completed these four steps, the system will show you your submission information for your review. If you find any errors or
are not satisfied with the information, you can go back to previous steps and make corrections.
5. Return of Manuscript
When a manuscript is received by the editorial office, if it has not been prepared according to the author guidelines and style
guide, it will be returned to the author, and the status of the manuscript will be set to "incomplete submission." The authors need to
revise their manuscript according to the comments provided, replace the manuscript on the ETRI Journal web site, and click "submit" again
at the end of the submission procedure.
IV. Review Process
1. Prescreening before Peer Review
When a manuscript is submitted to ETRI Journal, it undergoes an initial prescreening by the Editorial Committee in order to determine whether
or not the paper fits the interests of ETRI Journal's readers. If the Editorial Committee feels the manuscript meets the journal's minimum
standards for publication, the paper then enters a blind reviewing process.
2. Main Review (Peer Review)
As peer review is the key factor in ensuring high quality articles based on an objective and balanced evaluation, all papers that have passed
the prescreening undergo peer review. The Editorial Committee generally selects three reviewers for each paper. However, one or two reviews
may be sufficient for the Editorial Committee to make a decision. Both the reviewers and the authors are anonymous. For additional information
on the review process, see the Reviewers section on the web site.
3. Acceptance of Manuscript
The Editorial Committee of ETRI Journal is responsible for making the final decision whether to publish a manuscript. After carefully reviewing
all reviewers' comments and authors' responses and revisions, the Editorial Committee makes a decision based on the best judgment of its members.
The Editorial Committee may decide not to publish a manuscript without asking the author for responses to the reviewers' comments.
For additional information on the Editorial Committee and the decision process, see Editorial Policies in the Editors section on the web site.
V. After Acceptance
1. Submission of Photos and Bibliographies
Authors of a regular or special-issue paper should submit their photos and biographies if their paper is accepted for publication.
For all types of manuscripts to be published, please submit each author's name and contact information including organization, address, telephone, and e-mail address on a separate sheet for front page information on the authors.
To avoid publication delays, the ETRI Journal Publication Office should be notified in advance of any anticipated changes in author addresses or absences that may occur during production.
2. Language Editing
For every manuscript accepted for publication, ETRI Journal provides a free English language editing service by an English native speaker who majored in English. The English editor uses the "track changes" and "memo" functions of MS Word for communication with the authors. The authors are required to respond at their earliest convenience not to cause any delay in production.
3. Proofs
Every article to be published in ETRI Journal is re-edited utilizing the authors' manuscript after English editing. Authors will receive proofs of their paper prior to publication. These must be checked and returned to the ETRI Journal Publication Office immediately. Changes should be minor corrections only.
4. Charges, Reprints, and Complimentary Copy
ETRI Journal does not charge authors for submission or publication. Authors of a paper published in ETRI Journal receive 30 reprints of their work and a complimentary copy of the issue in which their contribution appears.
